Breakaway Tips: Grab Attention Through Quality

The Microsoft Corp. has just published a study which declares that the attention span of the Average American has drained down to eight seconds.

Maybe it stems from the frustration of having to endure Outlook?

All kidding aside, let others bicker over the cause.

What you must do is keep this statistic in mind when strategizing your marketing.

How can your direct mail piece compel your prospects from the very second their eye balls view it?

In that first line, how can you express the problem you are going to solve for the prospect?

Here’s my stab at it:

A bad printer can destroy your marketing. You can’t Photoshop yourself out of a disastrous printing job… after it’s been printed. Trust Breakaway Press with your printing and know the best team in printing will have your back from the first proof to final delivery.

That is the way you grab attention and hold it past that eight second mark and compel your prospect to take action.

Take a nine-second + peek at our services here!

Celebrating 25 Years of Service: A Founder’s Reflection

Our intention and vision in creating Breakaway Press 25 years ago is hinted at in the name.

The concept of “breaking away” for us entails closely examining how we live and how we work… together. It was our vision to “break away” from conformity to some of the colder aspects of modern business and work life.

We wanted to create and foster an environment where the gap between work and the rest of life would be blurred, thus creating an overlap between these too often disparate parts of life. Our vision was, and remains, to create a place where all people are recognized as unique, gifted individuals with special qualities and talents. We envisioned a workplace driven by mutual support between all of our team members, as well as the extended community that reaches out into the world of customers, suppliers and vendors – and their families. We saw a place where our goals would be expressed and shared; blending our customers’ needs with our understanding and commitment to meet them – while pursuing the highest level of excellence. Both in communication and in production – that we can all share and grow through.

So, what happens in this Breakaway environment after 25 years?

So much challenging and rewarding experience – moving through and understanding our changing world, a rapidly changing industry, as well as customer needs changing – almost “mutating!” Good, intelligent, caring people comprise our growing Breakaway Press family. Remaining open to learning, growing, adapting and excelling.  The rewards come through seeing our company adapt to the evolving applications of graphics technology and the changing needs of our long-time and valued customers and friends; as well as our new friends and customers coming to rely on us more every day.

When you reach a milestone, like 25 years, you survey your path – past, present, and as much as one can, the future – grateful for the gifts that we have jointly been able to bring into our lives and renewing our commitment to continuing to rise to the occasion and respond with determination, resolve and excellence to all of the opportunities that are presented and created through our skillful implementation of what we have always known, what we’ve come to know, and what we continue to learn… together. Break away… and always circle back…

Staff Story: Caring is Not a Cliché, it is the Core

Back in 2006, a friend of mine attended a conference in Santa Monica (aka Silicon beach), where the late Steve Jobs was a speaker.

After the conference, my friend strolled to the Loews Hotel bar for a drink.  As he was sipping his Heineken, he spotted Steve Jobs a couple of seats down.  Amazingly, Jobs was alone.

My friend figured that other people had spotted him and were in the process of psyching themselves up to approach the Apple founder.  So, he better get there first.

He did.

Since ratcheting up his courage to introduce himself required 100 percent of his focus and energy, he didn’t consider what he would actually say once nose-to-nose with the tech legend.

All he could muster was, “So, what makes Apple different?”

Probably a question Steve has fielded since the seventies.

To my friend’s disbelief, Jobs paused before answering.  My friend thought, “Wow, he’s not blowing me off with some stock answer, he’s going to think about it.”

Steve Jobs replied with, “We care.” He didn’t talk about design or usability principles.  He boiled it all down to “We care.”

In reflecting on Breakaway Press’ twenty five years, we could talk about all the techniques and technology we leverage to give our clients unsurpassed product quality and customer service.

But, when you refine it down to the core, what drives us to go the extra mile (and a half) is that we care. A lot.

Every member of the Breakaway Press team deeply cares about upholding our company values – those of caring about our customers and the orders they have trusted to us.

Celebrating 25 Years of Service: An offer of “Freedom”

As Breakaway Press celebrates 25 years of service, we are reflecting on the driving factors that have given us 25 years of life and counting.

So, we asked you, our customers and friends, beyond a top quality product, why do you turn to Breakaway over and over?

One theme that moved to the forefront was “freedom.” And no, we’re not also a bail bonds company!

Customers told us time and time again, that when they send a job to Breakaway, it is one less thing they have to worry about.

Knowing that an important job will be produced to meet the highest standards and delivered on time is… freedom – freedom to tackle other challenges stress free (or even go home a little early.)

We have been delivering “freedom” to our customers for 25 years… and counting.

Breakaway Tips: The Fundamentals of Fundraising

Here at Breakaway Press, we have a countless number of clients who fund-raise.

From charities to private schools, our clients seek our help in crafting and then delivering an irresistible call to action.

In this blog post, I’ll share two battle tested methods to ramp up your donor’s willingness to support you.

1. Compelling Imagery

A compelling image that captures your message in Technicolor-like power will win the hearts and minds of your prospects.

If you are operating a private school, hire a professional photographer for a day and then select the most compelling picture and feature that image on your mailers.

2. K.I.S.S. with your prospects

Notice, I didn’t say kiss your prospects, I said K.I.S.S. with your prospects.  Keep It Simple Sweetheart, is what the acronym stands for.

Don’t drum them with multiple offers and calls to action. Reach out to them with one offer and one call to action. When you cram two or more requests onto one postcard or letter, your influence evaporates.

If you are in the planning stages of creating a fundraising campaign, we are standing by with our diverse skill sets ready to help you.

The Breakaway Press team can design, produce and mail your next fundraising campaign – so contact us to learn more!

Staff Story: The nosedive of an adult learning center

I am taking a Dreamweaver class at an adult learning center.  After completing the class, I will probably not use my Dreamweaver skills and then those lessons will more than likely migrate out of my own personal mental hard drive.

What will remain with me is a conversation I had with the marketing director of the school.

She shared with me a marketing mistake that almost shut their school down.

Semester after semester, they leveraged a class catalog that was mailed to all of their previous students as well as to everyone in town.

One semester, they had a brainstorming session about how to slice the budget.

On the chopping block was the catalog.

The powers-that-be figured, “we have a website and we can send emails, so we don’t need a course catalog.”

So, after making the cut, registration plummeted.

Facing a nightmare of empty classrooms, the school scrambled to create and email the catalog to their print vendor.

It went out a lot later than normal, but they salvaged their semester and learned a precious marketing lesson.

Companies with an integrated marketing approach win, companies that put all of their eggs in one basket, even if that basket is the web, lose.

For your next catalog, please, reach out to us.

We can design and craft a top quality catalog that will grab your prospect and make them hold onto it like their favorite novel.
